My name is Robin Shackell founder of Specialised Adventure Travel. I spent 8 years living in South America. My time there gave me fascinating insight into the people, their countries and the diverse landscape that help shape this remarkable continent. The unique experiences that I had, made a powerful impact on me and created a deep bond with South America.

As a qualifed mountain leader, I spent time hiking and climbing, often to places that guide books do not reach. In 2002, I established and ran the first Expedition Section of the Duke of Edinburgh (International) Award for young people in Ecuador, with 30 young people passing the first level in 2003. Establishing Specialised Adventure Travel and a sister company Volunteer South America www.volunteersam.com was based on a desire to show others the unique experiences that South America has to offer and to help it's people.

I believe that the local communities and their inhabitants are best placed to explain their culture, beliefs, way of life and the area in which they live.
