  • Health and Safety

    Your health and safety during the trip is a top priority. We are guided by the the following principles;

    Health

    Staying healthy abroad begins by taking care at home. We therefore ask you to:

  • Ensure that your vaccinations for the countries to be visited are up to date.
  • Ensure that you are physically fit enough to undertake the trip you have chosen.
  • Complete our medical form, which is used to help with your medical care should it prove necessary. The information that it contains remains confidential and is available only to Specialised Adventure Travel, Inc personnel and those responsible for your medical care.

    Even with the best preparation and care, health problems may arise. It is for this reason that we must insist that you take out medical and travel insurance.

    Safety

    All trips carry inherent risks, even in our own country. Overseas adventure trips into the back country, particularly mountainous areas carry more. We take great care in the planning and execution of each trip. We try to eliminate as many of the risks as possible and reduce the remaining risks to acceptable levels. It is impossible to eliminate all risk. If you are not comfortable with this, then an adventure vacation is probably not for you. We offer many other, less risk inherent options. We have the following guiding principles:

  • We will not undertake activity that carries unacceptable risks. This may include unsuitable weather conditions, dangerous conditions on the mountains or activity that is likely to get you or me nominated for a "Darwin Award" or an "Honorable Mention". See www.darwinawards.com.
  • We do not visit areas that have been designated unsafe by the US or British Embassy in that country. We check the information that they provide regularly.
  • We provide you with a security briefing on arrival.
  • On adventure trips, we ensure that at least one of your guides has first aid training.
  • Our guides also have contact details of rescue services, including helicopter rescue where these exist.
  • If we use another organisation for adventure activity, we check their qualifications.

    To ensure that risks are reduced to a minimum, it is important that you follow the instructions given by your guide and adhere to the advice given at the security briefing. Have a safe and enjoyable trip!
